Information
for Pain Professionals
For pain sufferers, finding someone to address their pain can pose a significant barrier. To make this task easier, MOPI is compiling a voluntary directory of pain professionals who currently provide pain management services to Missourians. The directory will be accessible on-line and will allow pain sufferers to search the directory by specialty, type of pain condition, provider name, and geographic area.
There is no fee to be listed in the directory.
The listing of any pain professional and/or entity in our directory
does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation of services. The
Missouri Pain Initiative does not assume any liability for
the accuracy of the listings or the actions of any listed entity
or professional. It is the responsibility of the party completing
the directory listing form to provide an accurate and up-to-date
report of the services provided and credentials. Failure to
do so will result in the elimination of the listing in the
directory. (To complete a
directory listing click this link.
You will also be required to download,
sign and return a disclaimer before your
listing will be released to the directory.)
Effective December 2008, the Missouri Board of Healing Arts, Board of Nursing and Board of Pharmacy jointly issued guidelines for professional practice in the assessment and treatment of pain. The Boards are in accord with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations in recognizing that “Patients have the right to appropriate assessment and management of pain. This statement is not intended to define complete or best practice, but rather to communicate guidelines for professional practice.
Show-Me Urban and Rural Education Initiative
In August 2005, MOPI launched the Show Me Urban and Rural (SURE) project, a statewide professional education initiative designed to deliver a variety of didactic sessions on a number of pertinent pain topics to rural and urban health care organizations, institutions, and societies.
We identified a number of high-quality speakers, with varying areas of expertise, from within our membership available to present the material in a fair and balanced manner at regional conferences, grand rounds, and other educational venues. (Click this link to view a list of SURE speakers and topics.) Please note that the provision of continuing education credits will be the responsibility of the requesting organization. We will take into consideration the size of the venue, with opportunities to reach larger audiences taking precedence over smaller venues when conflicting scheduling occurs.
The charge for a speaker is $500. A reduced fee for non-profit organizations will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you wish to schedule a speaker for your educational event contact us at: info@missouirpain.org or call 636-300-3948.

The PRN Curriculum and Planning Guide is a program implementation tool-kit designed to assist clinicians/educators in hospital settings to coordinate and implement a Pain Resource Nurse (PRN) Program as a means of improving the quality of pain management. The curriculum in the Guide includes content on the prevalence and impact of pain, basic pain physiology, assessment of pain, pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, methods of drug delivery, acute and chronic pain, cancer pain, management of pain in patients with substance abuse, and the PRN role. The curriculum is organized into nine modules, each containing objectives, an outline, PowerPoint® slides, a case study and narrative, and sample test questions. The Additional Educational Materials section contains tools to foster interactive and independent learning: an attitude survey, case studies, role plays, learn and discover exercises, materials to teach equianalgesic conversions, and a collection of Fast Facts (one-page educational tools).
