About
Us
Incorporated in 2004, the Missouri Pain Initiative
is an independent nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to
improving the lives of Missourians in pain. Our mission is to
improve the quality of life of people with pain by raising public
awareness, promoting self-advocacy and provider practice improvement,
and working to remove barriers and increase access to effective
pain management. We are a state member of the Alliance of State
Pain Initiatives (ASPI) and a American Pain Foundation (APF)
Power Over Pain © state partner.
What We Do
- Educate the general public, health care professionals, policymakers,
and the media about pain and pain management treatment options
by serving as a regional clearinghouse and resource center.
- Promote self-advocacy of better pain
assessment and management through community education and
engagement efforts like
the Power Over Pain © campaign.
- Support healthcare provider practice improvement through
continuing education opportunities presented throughout the
state.
- Collaborate with other pain partners
like the Advisory Council on Pain and Symptom Management
and the Changing the
Face of Pain in Missouri collaborative to share resources and
knowledge,
mobilize
efforts to ensure timely and effective access to pain
care,
and support each other’s pain-related priorities
and activities.
We accomplish this through the talent,
knowledge, and dedication of our member volunteers and
with the support of ASPI, APF,
and other non-profit organizations and foundations.

| American Pain Foundation Launches Fibromyalgia Awareness Pilot Project in Missouri |
| To raise awareness about fibromyalgia (FM), an often misdiagnosed, musculoskeletal pain
condition that affects up to six million Americans, the American Pain Foundation (APF) is piloting a Is Fibro the Cause? awareness project in Missouri. They are working with community and statebased alliance groups and fibro advocates to disseminate our new Is Fibro the Cause? toolkit.
Not only does this toolkit include helpful tips and resources on how to recognize fibromyalgia’s
signs and symptoms, but also provides a worksheet to help track symptoms and facilitate
communication with your health care provider.
